It shouldn’t be
Like this
The world split
Divided
A whole race
Betrayed
By civilisation
Excluded
From society
Judged
By stereotypes
Mistreated
For the colour
Of their skin
Killed
By the corrupt
System
‘But it’s just
The way things are’
Say the privileged
The ignorant
The killers
But it shouldn’t be
Like this
And it won’t be
If we stand

My poem ‘The Way Things Are’ highlights the corrupt society and system that is discriminatory against black lives. It also forces and encourages the people that stand by, and the privileged, to face reality, to not be ignorant and complacent and to take a stand.
