Artist’s Statement
These pieces are a small sampling of different methods and subjects that I have tried in my artwork. I try to push myself into artistic territories that are out of my comfort zone, and push myself forward. I use limited palettes on some, reimaging real life experiences from an outsider point of view, attempting to follow a specific genre (expressionism, modernism, impressionism, romantic); anything that creates an obstacle for me. I find that making something easy takes the life out of any artistic work. The only consistency in my painting is my medium, canvas under oil, because I hate hearing oil on canvas all the time.
M. Patrick Riggin is an artist, writer and musician from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He worked as a musician while studying journalism and history for his undergraduate degree. M.
