Artist’s Statement

“Ent Wife” — acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

I have always been enthralled with how we have, over time, connected and disconnected with the environment through our practices, narratives, and uses. In this time of global warming and wildfires, I feel a duty to create work that instills empathy for our rural landscapes, and reminds us how much a part of us they are. In my work, nature is embodied in human form (and vice versa) as a reminder of how the environment is a reflection of our bodies, our choices, and our actions, and keeps us accountable.

Liz Baxmeyer is an artist, musician, and writer living in Sacramento, CA, but originally from England. She takes inspiration from the folklore of natural landscapes, and humans’ transcendent relationship with the environment. Her artwork can recently be found in Beyond Words Literary Magazine, Wild Roof Journal, Green House Literary, and more. @lizrydermusicandart
