For George Floyd,
When they sin against you–for there is no one who does
not sin–and you become angry with them and give them over
to their enemies, who take them captive to their own
lands, far away or near.
And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not
dispute and lose courage and your strength would depart; and be patient.
Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
“Which one of you convicts me
of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not
believe me?”
But Jesus said, “Someone touched me,
for I perceive that power has gone out from me.”
“This poem is an amalgam of verses from the Quran and Bible (verse number 8:46), the exact duration that the police officer held the knee to Floyd’s neck.I have written this poem to reflect on the universal grief that is felt & an injustice to not just a human, but humanity.”
