No dandelion stays in one piece
It festers
It grows
It spreads
like wildfires
They close their eyes
They give a loving blow
For wishes
They laugh and—
Smile as they
watch parts of me flow and twirl
I carry their
wishes to different places
Unicorns
Happiness
Cotton candy but—
Never Social Justice
My journey is rough
Bitterness of sights can root me down
The wind can carry my voice further
But the rain would wash me down
One seed fell It was a light fall but—
The landing was hard
Men in Blue Uniforms freshly
Sharpened their hands and knees
From bitterness from their hearts and
Our world’s worst nightmare
They consider themselves
White-minded
Pure—
Superior than those of Black
I see the hunger as their hands and knees tightened
Around the man’s neck
I hear the pulses of the man’s heart
Distancing farther away
In just 8 minutes, 46 seconds
He’s gone
You saw his lips moving:
I can’t breathe
Colors appear
It’s Black and White
It’s George Floyd
The smell of iron
So vivid—
That you can taste it
Apartment creaks under the weight
Of Men in Duty
Screams and guns fired
8 shots and—
She’s gone
Colors appear
It’s Black and White
It’s Breonna Taylor
Scarlet scarves wrap the scene
And the last seed drops
The sky explodes into flashing lights
The door and window are left open
Sirens fill the gap
8 year old boy plays while
A lady settles herself inside
A gun fired by a Man in blue
It ripples the house and—
And she’s gone
Colors appear
It’s Black and White
It’s Atatiana Jefferson
There is no place for me to stay
Where we watch life ending stories of
Colored people under the promising banners of
Our American Stars and Stripes
Where you continue
To wince along with the
Painful silence
That still exists in
Tranquility
“I’ve come to find inspiration from a simple plant: dandelion. Not only does it represent grassroots activism, but it also spreads messages, wistful wishes, love to every corner of our world. We can all be dandelions — messengers to our community on how Black people are suffering from injustices, brutality from Policemen. My poem illustrates the non-coincidental, common thread that all scenes involve, the repeating statement “It’s Black and White”, which illuminates the primordial feud originating from hundreds of years ago. I hope to spread understanding in all communities to defeat racial injustice—Black Lives Matter.”
