Artist’s Statement
What does it mean to preserve youthful beauty? Across all cultures, youthful appearance is cherished as a rare and arbitrary treasure, but pursuing it often necessitates sacrifice and devotion; devotion to an ideal of perfection. If you were offered eternal youth, would you be willing to trade the lives of others for your own benefit?
Aileen Xie is a high schooler from the California Bay Area who is passionate about fine arts and writing. Much of her work explores the complex recesses of the human mind, the abstract nature of the universe, and the struggle of life against time. She has been published in The Paper Crane Journal, The Blue Marble Review, Up North Lit, and others.
