TANYA RASTOGI

Artist’s Statement

‘Original Sin’ is a pastel painting depicting an alternate version of Eve in which she holds an ax and stands stiffly before a tree. In the background, snakes twine around tree branches, barely visible. The true sin, in this case, is humanity’s exploitation of the Earth to further its own goals. As man sprung forth from the union between Adam and Eve, money, aptly called the root of all evil, has existed in various forms since humans began to trade and industrialize the planet’s resources.

Tanya Rastogi is a 15-year-old artist from Iowa. Her work has been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and is forthcoming in Kalopsia Lit.
